# How virtual try-on works, and its limits

**Virtual try-on uses an AI image model to put your own clothes on a full-length photo of you, so you can see an outfit before you get dressed. The result is a visualization: it shows colors, proportions and how pieces work together, not exact fit or size.**

## How it works

You give the app one or more full-length photos of yourself (LookMemo takes up to five, from different angles) and photos of the pieces. A generative image model draws a new full-length picture of the same person: it keeps your face, hair, skin tone and body proportions and dresses you in the chosen pieces. LookMemo shows the whole outfit in a natural standing pose on a plain background, so the pose and the background are not the ones in your photo.

It does not measure your body or simulate fabric. The model predicts how the outfit would plausibly look on you.

## What it is good for

Try-on answers questions you would otherwise settle in front of a mirror:

- Do these colors work together and with your coloring?
- Which of two outfits suits the occasion better?
- Do the proportions work, for example a long coat with wide trousers or a cropped knit with a high waist?
- Does a new piece go with what you already own? (In LookMemo the piece has to be in your wardrobe first; for one still in the shop, ask the stylist with a photo.)

## Where it falls short

Know the limits before you rely on a picture:

- Fit and size: a picture cannot tell whether a size will fit you.
- Drape and texture: thin or shiny fabrics, prints and logos can come out differently.
- Details: small accessories, layered necklines and shoes are the hardest parts.
- Each result is newly generated, so two attempts can differ slightly.

## How to get a good result

The better the input, the closer the picture:

- A full-length photo, facing the camera, arms slightly away from the body.
- Even light and a plain background.
- Simple, close-fitting clothes in your photo, so your shape is clear.
- Clear photos of the pieces, ideally on a plain background.

## Your photos and privacy

A full-length photo is personal. Use a service that asks for explicit consent, says who processes the images and lets you delete them at any time.

## How LookMemo helps

In LookMemo try-on works with your own wardrobe: pick a look, or the one the stylist suggested, and see it on you. You can keep up to five full-length photos for try-on, added only after explicit consent and deleted when you withdraw it.

The free plan includes a try-on to test. In Premium a try-on costs 2 of your monthly credits. The people and clothes in this site’s demos are AI-generated.

## Questions

### Can virtual try-on tell me my size?

No. It is a picture, not a measurement. For size, use the brand’s size chart and your measurements.

### Why do the pose or background differ from my photo?

LookMemo draws a new full-length picture in a natural standing pose on a plain background, so the whole outfit is visible. It keeps your face, hair, skin tone and proportions; each picture is generated anew, so small details can vary. Good light and clear photos keep the result closer to you.

### Are the people in the demos on lookmemo.com real?

No. The people and the clothes in the site’s demos are AI-generated and labelled as such.
